Women's History Month Brunch

Congratulation to our 2013 Women's History Month Brunch Honorees!

As a celebration of Women’s History Month, we wanted to connect our brunch attendees not just to women throughout history – but to
women making history.

Our 2013 WHM Brunch Honorees were chosen with this in mind and as always – an eye to inclusion, equality, and diversity.

We emphasized women of color, local Sacramento and California women, and chose some inspiring women who you may otherwise never have heard about.

We hope these women inspire you
as they have us.

Women Need to Realize Work Isn’t School

By Whitney Johnson and Tara Mohr
January 11, 2013

Academic institutions are churning out ever-more female graduates. But the very skills that propel women to the top of the class in school are earning us middle-of the-pack marks in the workplace. Indeed, a recent study found that women account for 51.4% of middle managers in the U.S. but only 4.2% of Fortune 500 CEO's. Based on our experience, the CEO statistics will continue to improve, but only incrementally, until women recognize that the boardroom is not the schoolroom. To be successful, we must now do the very thing we were always taught not to: be disruptive...

Women in the Workplace

By Armando Gomez
Post date unknown

Whether they like it or not, men have to accept, once and for all, that women are marching up the corporate ladder confidently and with full speed ahead.

Women used to be much more "quiet and passive" in the workplace due to the relatively small number of female employees in comparison to males. Women today, on the other hand, have begun assuming their positions by using all their God given powers of intelligence and organization...

Labyrinths, not Ladders: How Women Are Redefining Work

By Dr. Tracey Wilen-Daugenti
January 15, 2013

According to the new book Women Lead by Apollo Research Institute, 58% of women professionals describe their career path as nonlinear. This model seems especially appropriate for many workers in today's knowledge economy, in which intellectual productivity (not manual labor) can extend workforce participation by an additional 10 years or more...

2011 Spring Reception

2011 Spring Reception

The 2011 Fem Dems Spring Reception and Silent Auction was held Thursday, April 28th at the Barton Art Gallery in Sacramento.

We were pleased to award Speaker pro Tempore Fiona Ma the Honorary Fem Dem of the Year award for her tireless advocacy of electing women to office.

The 2011 Fem Dems Spring Reception and Silent Auction celebrated Democratic women in politics and provided an opportunity to meet, connect, and network in support of one another. All proceeds from the event will go to two new initiatives to support the cause of gender parity in politics:

1. The new Fem Dems PAC, which will support women candidates in their campaigns for elected office; and

2. A comprehensive, on-line directory of women in the business of getting Democratic women elected.

We are pleased to provide this unique service free to the public to showcase the many women-owned political consulting, polling, fundraising and lobbying firms that have trail- blazed in this traditionally male profession. This wonderful resource will help women candidates and candidates who support women’s rights find a winning campaign team!

Thank you again to all who came and showed support.

Candidate Training Boot Camp

Candidate Training Boot Camp

Our 2012 Boot Camp Graduates!

About the Boot Camp:

The inaugural Fem Dems candidate training Boot Camp was an exceptional opportunity for feminist Democrats who are candidates or considering running for office to learn the ins and outs of a campaign.

California’s foremost political professionals  headlined a series of panel discussions and workshops on fundraising, election finance law, messaging, grassroots organizing, and social & new media.

Immediately following the boot camp was a reception for all members, attendees, panelists and sponsors at the Grange in Sacramento.  The reception offered everyone an opportunity to network with rising candidates, accomplished professionals, dedicated sponsors and the members of the Fem Dems who work tirelessly to to provide these kind of opportunities.

About the Sponsorship Opportunities:

The Fem Dems offered exclusive sponsorship opportunities to leaders in business, politics, and the community.

Sponsorship of the 2012 Fem Dems Campaign Boot Camp helps to amplify the voice of feminist Democrats in politics and provide a valuable atmosphere for women to meet, connect, and network to better support each other.

If you would still like to make a contribution to the Fem Dems, you may pay securely online through our Act Blue event page or make checks payable to:
