Hello Fem Dems,
The sun is out, the birds are chirping, and we’re giving women their flowers all month long because it’s women’s history month! But don’t let your support for us stop after March. Show up for us, advocate for us, and make room at the table for us all year round.
Women are truly trailblazers who take on the roles of parents, siblings, leaders, role models, mentors and more. Their extraordinary contributions to society, their resilience, and their leadership are inspirational.
This month I specifically want to shout out the amazing womxn on the Fem Dems board:
— Talia D’Amato, Media Relations Director, who is the reason we have this beautifully crafted newsletter every month!
— Veronica Boulos, Finance Director, who planned and executed our spectacular fundraiser.
— Jelena Herrera, Membership and Service Outreach Director, who plans our mixers and maintains our amazing membership.
— Hana Uhler, Communications Director, who ensures our social media presence highlights all of the great work we get do in the community.
— Rebecca Payne, Secretary, who does an amazing job at maintaining all of our calendaring and administrative duties.
— Andrea Amavisca, Pipeline Program Director, who ensures we are connecting our members and community to vital resources.
— Chloe Hermosillo, Treasurer, who maintains our budget and has been a great asset to all of our planning committees.
— Annabelle Hopkins, Political Director, who is a liaison between our organization and all of the great candidates and elected officials we work with.
This amazing group of individuals are the backbone of Fem Dems. I wouldn’t have been able to lead this organization without them. I was honored to receive an amazing farewell by them at our annual fundraiser, Lights, Camera, Action! The overwhelming support and love from all of our members made our fundraiser even more special. Thank you to all who attended and made it possible.
I first joined Fem Dems when I was an intern, fresh out of college and looking for a like-minded community. Fem Dems welcomed me with open arms, and I haven’t turned back since then. We are a place where everyone is welcomed, unique ideas develop, and change makers are found. This is the place where I found my voice for advocacy and the courage to question the status quo.
I know Fem Dems will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will forever cherish the memories I made while serving on the executive board. Thank you to all who have given me grace while I learned to be the leader I am today.
I’m so excited for what's to come and the great work we will continue to do under new leadership. In the meantime, I'll see you at the next few Fem Dems events—and soon, as a general member like I once was 9 years ago.
For the last time, in community,
Alice Montes-Christopher
President of Fem Dems of Sacramento
