Dear Fem Dems,

This February we celebrated Black History Month and Valentine's Day, and today is Lunar New Year! I hope you all had the opportunity to show some love to your friends and family.

Love is a powerful tool in politics. It is what drives many of us to push for change against injustice. For example, the love I have for my community is what drives me to advocate for reproductive rights, protection for undocumented individuals, and access to healthcare for all.

So what do you love, that motivates you to use your voice and your power? As you sit with this, I also want you to think about the activists that came before us, like LGBTQIA2S+ advocate Marsha P. Johnson. She embodied a powerful, radical form of love. Her love stood out, spoke up, and refused to let people be treated as less than human.

Leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr., also taught us that love is strong enough to overcome hate. This is an important reminder during these unprecedented times. His work showed that when people show up in community, community makes change.

We hope you will continue to show up with us, attend our events that we craft with thought and care for you all, and support the many causes we take on.

And a shameless plug: If you haven't already, make sure to RSVP and get your tickets for our upcoming fundraiser, "Lights, Camera, ACTION!" We will be awarding community leaders, enjoying some yummy food, and celebrating all the good work we've done this year and in years prior. All of the proceeds go towards helping young democratic professionals, Fem Dems' community service, and supporting grassroots campaigns. I leave you with this silly little poem:

Roses are red,
violets are blue,
I hope you'll buy tickets
and bring your friends, too!

In community,
Alice Montes-Christopher
