STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO RECENT ALLEGATIONS AGAINST CALIFORNIA DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIR ERIC BAUMAN
The Fem Dems of Sacramento have, and will continue to fight to end sexual harassment and assault in our community. It is essential that we establish a safe environment for all, one that is free from harassment, intimidation, and assault. We are especially dedicated to fostering an environment that prioritizes the safety of victims, allowing their voices to be heard.
For these reasons, we join in the call for an independent investigation into these disturbing allegations and remain hopeful that this will bring answers and justice to our community. If you have been a victim of sexual harassment, assault or intimidation, we are committed to serving as a resource.
The Fem Dems are committed not only to addressing rape culture in our workplaces and other public spaces, but equally critically, to looking inward to ensure that feminist, democratic, progressive and activist spaces are also accountable. For this reason last year, the Fem Dems drafted and adopted a formal sexual harassment policy and protocol (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vDABzyk5oLbCI4PjIfUA2Cwpmv66lmJC/view?usp=sharing) in consultation with survivor and victim support organizations, HR professionals, legal experts and harassment prevention specialists.

UPDATE: In light of Eric Bauman’s resignation in reaction to these allegations of sexual misconduct, we still stand by the need for a full investigation to ensure that justice and closure is brought to the victims involved.
